Look for an Austin Storefront in 2024!

Hi Friends,

Since our start during the Pandemic, we’ve thrived beyond our earliest expectations because of you, and we’re looking to take a big next step. It’s with highest hopes that we’re sharing our thrilling news – we’re planning to open our very own storefront in central Austin!

Our journey started during Covid when we began trading bread for barbecue sauce, anchovies, and just about anything. When we had 40 orders per week, we decided to launch a small business in 2020, stepping into it gingerly.

Ironically, a finger-wagging neighbor did us a huge favor. Here’s what happened: Austin's code enforcement shut down our monthly bread sale from the Jinx house so we needed another outlet. Seeking advice from a popular farmers' market vendor, we applied and had our very first market right after the infamous "Snowpocolypse" in February 2021. With grocery store shelves empty, we became the area's only bread source.

And we sold out in just 20 minutes.

In 2020, we were making 10-20 loaves per week, but now, in 2023, we're baking and selling over 150 per week, selling at markets along with complementary products like garlic herb butter, sourdough pizza crusts, and soft pretzels. We’re adding restaurant accounts, as well.

As we embark on planning the storefront, your support means the world to us. You are an essential part of our Jinx Bread family, and we want to involve you from the very beginning.

Together with Ethan, our other lead breadmaker, we envision a French-inspired tone with a wood-fired oven, and a warm and approachable atmosphere. Our product selection will focus on quality over quantity, featuring carefully crafted breads and pastries like rustic sourdoughs, flaky pains au chocolat and croissants, crunchy baguettes, and soft, buttery brioches. Escargots pistache chocolat? Definitely! And we’ll keep the three product principles that got us here: we must love it, love making it, and you must love it.

Central Austin is the goal, but other areas are possible

In terms of our timeline, we aim to wrap up planning by the end of this year (2023). In the spring of 2024, we'll kick off a funding round to bring our storefront to life. Our goal is to secure the perfect location and open the store by the end of 2024, ideally in the fall.   

But this is a huge step and we’re going to need a lot of help. Here’s what you can do:

  • Location: Keep an eye out for available properties in central Austin or if you’re a property owner or know one, that would be a big help.

  • If you know a commercial realtor you trust, please send them our way.

  • In early 2024, we'll be launching a funding round. If you're interested in investing (as little as $100) or just following along, please reach out to jack@jinxbread.com. There will be two ways to invest so that we can have as many people involved as possible.
