Introducing (Softly) Jinx Specialties

Well, aren’t we the lucky ones!! Only because you’ve hung with Jinx as a subscriber will you be given the early heads-up on some pretty nice products. Everything will probably change, except the recipes, which were adapted and refined by Jinxers. The packaging, labeling, etc. will evolve as the demand solidifies for them.

Want to help? Pricing feedback, please! Oh! and if I have time there may be a surprise for you if you mention this post and are early enough.

(Available at the Barton Creek Farmers’ Market Only: Saturdays 9-1)

They’re Pretty Special :-)

House Nutella

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably love Nutella but hate that palm oil is used. Deforestation aside, I’m not in favor of the thick coating palm oil leaves in my mouth. It just tastes fake to me. And yet, I’ll embrace my weak character and have some from time to time.

But it’s not too hard to make and sub the palm oil - so I took a few recipes, adapted, refined, and tasted. Then repeated, again and again. The result is pretty good: it’s very chocolatey, hazelnuts are present but not chalky, and the texture is smooth. The oil used is almond oil, but this may change.

The price is $10 for about half a pound (190g) and $22 for the full pound with nice jar.

INGREDIENTS: Organic hazelnuts, almond oil, sugar, cocoa powder, salt, vanilla extract

Pizza Sauce

You minimalists will love this one: San Marzano whole tomatoes that have been slow reduced for two hours with fresh thyme. These tomatoes have a tart/sweet/buttery flavor and great texture. The past few years I’ll take a can, reduce it, and package in half pint containers to freeze. When I want a pizza, it’s just a minute in the microwave to thaw and..I have amazing sauce.

Yes, this is the brand shown on Hulu’s “The Bear”. Copy cooks.

Could you do this yourself? Absolutely.

The price is $4 per half-pint, good for one pizza

INGREDIENTS : San Marzano tomatoes, thyme

Bavarian Sweet Mustard

My German customers at the market go crazy for this mustard, but you should definitely taste it first! It has juniper berries, nutmeg, allspice, and a light anise aroma. It’s whole grain, so it’s a little sharp, as well. Production is a long process with a lot of spices and ingredients, so like most of what we have, it’s not cheap!

The price for about half a pound (190g) is $8

INGREDIENTS : White wine vinegar, water, piloncilo sugar, fresh apple, yellow and brown whole grain mustard, spices
